Baby photo's update 30-9-11

Chick update. The hens that hatched early August, ( only 9 weeks old) cere colour has gone tan-brown. So even if they haven't broken their caps, I couldn't show them because of their adult cere colour.
Looks like I will have a definite seven chicks to take to the UBC selection night in October. Here they are today. They have another 3 weeks to grow, grow, grow.

RIP my little beauty

Nasty surprise for me today. My best chick from my best pair DEAD at 35 days old. She was very thin and had an empty crop. I totally blame myself for not being thorough enough with making sure chicks have full crops. My guess is she starved to death. Being at weaning age, she should have begun to feed herself. Foster dad is wonderful at feeding chicks and the three remaining chicks are chubby . This has never happened to me before. Lesson learned.  RIP my beautiful.

New Birds- Lacewings, lacewing splits and others.

We got six new birds today. Four of which are lacewings, one split and another bird not sure what he is split for yet.

White lacewing cock bred by G&G House in Western Australia. Grey cinnamon split lacewing cock and a very young yellow lacewing cock.
These are bad photo's of the birds. When they settle I will get better pics.
2010 and 2011 Yellow lacewing hens and a green cock bred by the Rowe Brothers.
Enjoying some sunshine.
 More photo's soon.

Baby photo update and aviary birds.

Babies that have hatched to date 29. Two pet babies have gone to new homes. One baby died because it hatched a day early and was so so tiny. Two died yellow belly(1 &3 days old) in the same nest and one other chick that I saved because he was stuck in his egg (pipped but was wrong way round), later died at 18 days old. I was excited about this chick because he was from my best pair. Also chicks that I'm able to save are special to me. The eldest in a nest of five and was a beautiful yellow face grey. The day before he died I took some photo's of him because I noticed he had a weird bald patch of skin on his neck, also he had some odd feathering on his head. I am still stumped to what killed him. I found him flat, black, full crop and almost completely plucked.
His brothers (yellowfaces) and sisters (cinnamon's)
